Ion Bârlădeanu is not the traditional kind of artist: he didn’t study art and the works he has been producing for the past thirty years are rather self-therapeutic, ingenuously asserting his own desires and obsessions but also an interior freedom, rather than purely aesthetic, directed at a potential audience. Ion Bârlădeanu is a true character. He always dreamt of being in the movies, of playing the hero. The collages he puts together are nothing more than his own films, which he imagines as a director, according to a story he also created. “Are you recording this? I would have liked to be an actor. Now I’m a director.”
